Steps and Staircases
Steps are one of our artistic specialties. Whether it is a steep spot on a trail or a focal point on an Adirondack lawn, we can design a staircase to fit. Available in flaircase, stone and cedar box styles.
Our flaircase steps are made from cedar logs. They have a great sculptural quality to them. Our stone steps are very solid and are often crafted from expertly chiseled stone found on property. Lastly, our cedar box steps are a solid foundation stair system for any property. Long slopes or inclines in trails are the best places for this design.
Chances are that we have a stair or step system that works great for you and your property. These stair systems are very solid, are highly functional and fit any natural environment perfectly.
Features
Flaircase
- The flaircase is built from the base sections of a cedar tree where the tree broadens or flairs out into the roots. We carefully select each log and have them cut in half in a mill. The resulting halves become the treads for an impressive winding flaircase.
Stone
- Our stone steps can add a solid dimension to any path. In many cases stones are found on the property and dragged, lugged, and carried into place. Some of these 200+ pound stones were hauled in by hand from several hundred yards away. Other stones were carefully split from fissured ledgerock. Despite the stubbornness of the medium, these stairs are a joy to climb and a thing of beauty to behold.
Cedar Box
- Cedar side logs are buried into the bank and then a cedar log riser is scribed, chiseled, and set on the two side logs. The inside of the box can be filled with gravel, woodchips, or soil. Stone slabs can be placed in the center as treads. Long slopes or inclines in trails are the best places for the cedar box step.
